The Poker Face Project

I don't know yet if I have done myself a disservice or not. Liv and I were playing a simple game of Go Fish the other day and she was a bit too ecstatic about her cards.
I explained (this is what she looks like when I explain something ~ I also have an uncanny ability to photograph something as I am explaining. My kids LOVE that. They really do.)
to her that if she wants to keep her cards a secret, she would have to work on the hoopla when she drew from the pile and got a card she had been longing for because if she squeals with joy, everyone will know she has a good card. On the other hand, if she pouts, everyone will know she's going to lose. I said she should keep her face straight and just be happy (or violent) inside. I went on to say that strategy would work for other things in her life as well, be it happy or mad. Poker Face Project.
But now I wonder as she gets older and turns into a teenager someday, if she will fine tune her poker face (c’mon, it’s Liv…of course she will) to such a degree that I will be frequently unaware of her adolescent adventures. She will grow up thinking, ‘ha, my mom brought this on herself.’ Which I did. Anyway, it made for some good pictures.
I've been talking about this cake to some of you and now here it is. The Kai Lan (I love Kai Lan!) cake I did for a friend of Josh's yesterday.
More good news...I have a kid who is able to take a bag and ride her bike to the store for me. Yesss!
Good thing this pic is from the back and you can't see her scowl. I was explaining to her as I was photographing...'don't go to the store mad, honey. Just go to the store.' Did I already say they love those explanation photos? She loved it so much that without a reader discretion at the top, I couldn't even post the next picture I took of her as she turned around. Maybe Shelb needs to start her OWN Poker Face Project.

By Me.
And all My Mountain Man-ness... or Madness. You decide.
1. Livi is not containable in still frame, or for that fact moving frame. We all kown that.
2. Her "Poker Face" works until you fake laugh to her and then she really laughs. (It really works, so when you play cards with her... BET BIG!!)
3. Jo's cakes are never fully appreciated. She got a $15 dollar tip on this one and this is before my friend even saw the cake!
Woman, that's what I'm talkin' 'bout...
P.S. I still didn't get my cut... HA! -
Apr 26, 2010 at 7:59 AMAmazing pictures to go with amazing kids! Love the cake! For once I will agree with Josh...your cakes deserve more recognition...and of course more cash to go along with it! I would be very scared if you came to our house and took candid pictures. I don't think Shaw would allow you to post them! No poker faces here...
